Shona Definition
Kana chinhu chichinge chaitika — chatoitika. Hazvibatsiri kupopota kana kuchema pamusoro pezvinhu zvaitika nokuti hazvichadzokeri pekare. Kana munhu afa — afa, haachamuki.
English Translation
What is dead is finished with, and saying 'if only I had known' changes nothing. Once a thing has happened there is no bringing it back, so complaining or weeping over it serves no purpose.
Cultural Context
“Said to someone dwelling on regret after an irreversible loss, much like the English 'no use crying over spilt milk'.”
