Shona Definition

Kana chokudya chaira chabikwa, changomirira kudyiwa chete, hachidzorerwi mudura. Chinhu chinenge chamirira kuitwa kana kudyiwa hachifaniri kuregerwa dzamara mangwana, nokuti hakuzivikanwi kuti chii chingaitika pausiku.

English Translation

Food that is already cooked cannot be put back in the granary, so whatever is ready should be dealt with now rather than held over. Do today what needs doing, since tomorrow may not allow it.

Cultural Context

“Often aimed at a host who is holding back what he has prepared, for instance one who wants to end a beer party while beer still remains.”

This is a variant of

Chaibva chaora / ngachichidyiwa / nokuti usiku igore

Food that is ready will only spoil, so it should be eaten now, since a single night's delay is as good as a whole year's.
