Mudondo hamuna mbiko

Shona Definition

Kuviga chinhu musango hazvirevi kuti kana munhu akachiona anoregera kuchitora. Chomusango hachinzi ndechanhingi sokuti chinenge chisiri mumba momunhu.

English Translation

The bush offers no safe hiding place (mbiko being a spot where something is concealed). Anyone who stumbles on goods left out in the wild is likely to take them, since what lies in the forest rather than in someone's house is not treated as having an owner.

Cultural Context

“Used to warn against stashing valuables away from the home, where they count as anyone's for the taking.”
